I majored in both Biology and Environmental Studies (2000), but wanted to interact with the world more at a heart level. In 2005, I majored in Dance and discovered Yoga and Buddhism around the same time. I first became certified in yoga at the 300 hour level with Fran Gallo (Seattle). Then a major car/bicycle accident turned my life upside down. Through healing, I learned the importance of the deeper aspects of yoga and an awareness practice. My yogic studies continue in the Viniyoga tradition with Mirka Kraftsow and Gary Kraftsow (I am certified as a 200 hour Viniyoga Wellness Instructor and a 500 hour Viniyoga Teacher) and my Buddhist studies continue through annual retreats, daylongs and a regular sitting/asana practice. I am also currently in training as a Yoga Therapist in American Viniyoga's two year program scheduled to finish in May 2020.
I’ve taught group classes since 2005 and I offer private sessions for more in-depth instruction tailored to each individual’s specific need. In my classes, I break down poses and sequences to explore underlying body principals. I use my science background to incorporate anatomy/kinesiology, my dance background to develop somatic awareness and my yoga and buddhist background to cultivate physical and mental awareness.
I started by teaching beginners for three years at the University of Washington, served on the Family Retreat at Spirit Rock Meditation for three years, and taught Mindful Balance Chair Yoga in Sonoma County. I’ve also taught yoga at the annual meditation retreats for and. In Graton, I’ve been leading my own group classes since 2009.
